Ping Pong Pavilion

Ping Pong pavilion//

Activity based design

MSU and Oxford Brooks University teamed up in designing a pavilion to engage the public in examining spaces for sport. A response to the London Olympic and Paralympic games.

Table tennis was chosen by the OBU students as they had a connection to it while playing during their free time both in and out of studio.

The goal was to create a pavilion for “around-the-world” table tennis, where multiple players each take a turn hitting the ball across the table, then walking or running to the other side to repeat the process. This gave the pavilion a less-rigid shape and allowed easy flow around both the pavilion and the table itself.
