Butte Infill//
User and Place//Material and Structure
Butte, Montana, the ‘richest hill on earth’ is different from it once was. It is now stagnant and historic, highlighting the development and style of what was once a rich mining town.
Zak Zakovi is a Montana artist and master builder who makes his home in Bozeman. His work can be found throughout Montana and the Gallatin Valley. One of his most passionate endeavors is the design and engineering of stone mobiles from the materials of the earth. [http://www.zakzakovi.com/]
Located on the Eastern edge of downtown Butte, the Zakovi residence is a multi-use infill project consisting of 4 parts: an exhibit space, and office space, a handicapped, single person residence, and a two person residence.
The project infuses the materials of Butte and Zak’s art as well as the verticality and void space of Butte’s mining history.
